MACOMB, IL -- Boccia ball players of all levels and abilities are invited to take part in a virtual indoor boccia ball league this spring hosted by the Western Illinois University kinesiology graduate programs's ability diversity option.

Graduate student Erica Witkowski, under the director of WIU Kinesiology Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator Cindy Piletic, is organizing the league as part of a class project. The league, which will begin March 4, provides individuals ages eight and up, wheelchair users and individuals who are ambulatory, the opportunity to compete against others around the country without leaving their home gym. The league will run six weeks, followed by tournament play beginning April 23. Scores are reported as league games are played.

According to Witkowski, rules will be similar to those used by Special Olympics and Paralympics, allowing participants to practice and train in preparation for, if further interested, competition in either sport organization. All further information will be provided to, and submitted by, participants via email or Google Docs.
