MACOMB, IL - - The Homeland Security Research Progam (HSRP), part of Western Illinois University's School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA), will host a presentation, "Preventing Terrorism: Going Beyond Stopping Imminent Attacks," given by Junaid Afeef, director of the Targeted Violence Prevention Program of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, at noon Wednesday, March 6 in Stipes Hall, room 121.

Afeef has 25 years of experience working in various roles within the criminal justice system as an attorney and policy advisor.

"Several summers ago, a student who was majoring in LEJA and had a minor in Homeland Security served as an intern at Mr. Afeef's program. There, the student gained important insights into countering violent extremism programs, while contributing to an important Illinois criminal justice agency," explained Dean Alexander, director of the HSRP and LEJA professor.
