Roger and Jean Morrow Distinguished Lecture at Western April 12

MACOMB IL – Professor Gary W. Felton, head of the department of entomology at Penn State University, will deliver the annual Morrow Lecture at 4 p.m. Friday, April 12 in Morgan Hall, 109.

The lecture is related to Felton's recent article, published in the journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America."

Through his research, Felton's lab has uncovered a novel type of manipulation by parasitic wasps of caterpillars. Thousands of parasitic wasp species attack other insects and, in many cases, grow inside the bodies of their hosts. These wasps can cause spectacular changes in the behavior of their hosts that make the host more suitable for the wasps to develop.

The Roger and Jean Morrow Distinguished Lecture is funded through an endowment in honor of Roger M. Morrow, the first head of the WIU Department of Physics, and his wife, Jean, who was one of the University's first female faculty members in the WIU Department of Biological Sciences. The lecture is also sponsored by the WIU Department of Biological Sciences and the WIU College of Arts and Sciences.
