MACOMB, IL – Due to unforeseen circumstances, Professor Gary W. Felton, head of the department of entomology at Penn State University, will no longer deliver the annual Morrow Lecture Friday.

Instead, the lecture will now be delivered by interim chair of the WIU Department of Physics, Kishor Kapale at 4 p.m. Friday, April 12 in Morgan Hall, 109.

The lecture will offer the audience a deeper understanding of the properties of quantum systems at the single atom and single photon level. Kapale will also discuss the frontier research, which may imply that quantum mechanics is very essential for several biological processes such as photosynthesis, DNA mutation, quantum vision, enzymatic activity and magnetic navigation used by European robins.

The Roger and Jean Morrow Distinguished Lecture is funded through an endowment in honor of Roger M. Morrow, the first head of the WIU Department of Physics, and his wife, Jean, who was one of the University's first female faculty members in the WIU Department of Biological Sciences. The lecture is also sponsored by the WIU Department of Biological Sciences and the WIU College of Arts and Sciences.
