WIU Anthropology Honor Society, Lambda Alpha, Chartered at WIU

MACOMB, IL – A chapter of Lambda Alpha, a national honor society for anthropology, has been installed at Western Illinois University.

The chapter, Xi of Illinois, will be led by faculty advisor Assistant Professor Andrea Alveshere.

The WIU chapter begins operation with charter members Alveshere; Associate Professor Patricia Anderson; Stephanie Becker, a senior anthropology major, of Lemont, IL; Alexandra Brisbin, a graduate student in chemistry, of Princeton, IL; Alexis Coronell, a senior anthropology major, of Moline, IL; Christina Cottle, a senior sociology major, anthropology minor, of Beardstown, IL; Associate Professor Christina Davis; Savannah Duncan, a senior anthropology major, of Knoxville, IL; Joshua McIlhenny, a senior anthropology major, of Macomb; Professor Heather McIlvaine-Newsad; Niki Nation, a senior anthropology major, of East Peoria, IL; Mary Sherman, a sophomore anthropology major, of Orland Park, IL; and Senica Springer, a junior anthropology major, of Rockford, IL.

To qualify for membership, applicants must meet criteria that include a minimum GPA and having completed a minimum number of anthropology courses. Students who graduated in the past five years are also eligible to join.

The Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society was established in 1968 to acknowledge and reward academic excellence through the annual awarding of student scholarships, research grants and student paper prizes.
