MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Professor Eric C. Sheffield has been named director of the WIU School of Education, according to College of Education and Human Services Dean Francis Godwyll. He has served as interim director since November 2019.

"Professor Eric Sheffield came to us after 14 years of service in the state of Missouri higher education system, and an additional 14 years in the P-12 system," said Godwyll. "He came into the position at a very challenging time. He hit the ground running and has been a pillar around which the new School of Education has been formed. He has the right temperament, skill-set, experience, competence and knowledge base to serve as the leader in our new school. I have every confidence in Dr. Sheffield that he will make contributions that exceed expectations."

Sheffield came to WIU in July 2017 from Missouri State University to serve as a professor and department chair of Educational Studies. He has published numerous books, peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, in addition to serving as a guest editor and reviewer.

He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL; his master's degree is secondary English education and his doctoral degree in philosophy of education from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
