CHICAGO, IL – "Still," a composition written by Western Illinois University Music Professor James Romig, which was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Music, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Roosevelt University in Chicago.

The hour-long performance, by Knox College music faculty Ashlee Mack, is being held in Ganz Hall, and is open free to the public.

"It is my hope that Ashlee Mack's performance of 'Still' might provide listeners with the opportunity to take a break from the usual hectic pace of everyday life and engage, for an hour or so, with a single, slowly-evolving musical artwork. And of course I would be thrilled if the audience later went on to explore not only my own musical works, but also the remarkable paintings of Clyfford Still that inspired my piano piece."

"Still," for solo piano was commissioned in 2016 by Mack, and Carl Patrick Bolleia, Louis Goldstein, Michiko Saiki, and Paola Savvidou, with additional support provided by the Clyfford Still Museum (Denver, CO). Mack has released a recording of the piece on New World Records, which can be found on iTunes, or at amzn.to/2YXZV89.

Since its release, "Still" has been performed in concert halls, art museums, historic homes and in plein air performances at national parks. The piece was inspired by the work of American abstract expressionist painter Clyfford Still.
