This even has been canceled because of the University closure.

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University students, Macomb community members and regional high school students will have a chance to think about summer this week as the University's Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration will host its annual Summer Opportunities Fair (SoF) from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

According to RPTA Assistant Professor Megan Owens, the event has been expanded this year to include a wider range of organizations that are recruiting for seasonal positions. The SoF will feature 50 organizations seeking staff for positions such as lifeguards, food service/catering, athletic instructors, inclusion aids, customer service, media relations, camp counselors (day or overnight), maintenance and natural resource grounds crews from as close as Chicago to as far away as Maine. There are opportunities for anyone seeking a skill-based, well-paid summer position.

The fair is open to students of all career interests and majors.

"Attending the fair provides students of various majors with employment possibilities and networking opportunities with a range of businesses," said Owens. "Real world skills can be developed through seasonal work such as communication and leadership skills, creativity, collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking. These are important skills that employers across all career fields seek in today's college graduates."

A list of organizations recruiting during the fair is available at wiu.edu/coehs/rpta/professional_development/explearning.php.

A second virtual Summer Opportunities Fair will be hosted from 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24.
