Centennial Honors College's Pre-Law Symposium Oct. 11 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Centennial Honors College will host its 20th annual Pre-Law Symposium from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The event is open free to the WIU community, and students interested in the study of law are encouraged to attend.

A table fair, with representatives of law schools, will be held from 5-6 p.m., with a welcome by Honors College Dean Lorette Oden, a keynote address by WIU alumnus Judge John Hauptman at 6 p.m., and a panel of law students and legal professionals will be moderated by WIU General Counsel, Attorney Elizabeth Duvall at 6:20 p.m.

Hauptman is a 1975 WIU alumnus, with a degree in political science. He is also a graduate of John Marshall Law School. In addition to serving as an assistant state's attorney, Hauptman was in private practice from 1984-1997, before being named an associate circuit judge in the 14th Judicial Circuit in 1997. He was a circuit judge in Whiteside County from 2004-2016, before being named a judge on the Third District Appellate Court, where he has served since 2021.

Law schools scheduled to attend the table fair include the Chicago-Kent College of Law; Indiana University's Robert H. McKinney School of Law; Marquette University Law School; the Northern Illinois University College of Law; the Southern Illinois University School of Law – Carbondale; the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law; the University of Illinois College of Law - Urbana; the University of Iowa College of Law; the University of South Dakota and the University of Toledo College of Law.
