Frederick Gene Miller Obituary

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Emeritus Education Professor Frederick Gene Miller passed away Sunday, Dec. 4 in Urbana, IL.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb.

Miller began working at the Western Laboratory School in 1968, and then teaching social studies methods in the WIU College of Education. In the mid-1970s, he began splitting his time between teaching in the College of Education and serving as director of the Curriculum Publications Clearinghouse. He retired from the University in 1997.

During his time at WIU, Miller guided tours and served as a European contact for the WIU Study Abroad program. He also served on the Faculty Senate, on several University, college and departmental committees and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Miller is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Douglas, Deanna and Melinda; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marcia.
