Centennial Honors College Hosting - Sixth Pre-Med Symposium March 1 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors College will host its sixth annual Dr. Jill M. Brody/McDonough Eye Associates Pre-Med Symposium, beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The event is a comprehensive opportunity for students to explore careers in a variety of medical fields, including nursing, dentistry, veterinary sciences, ophthalmology, optometry, dermatology, anesthesiology, pharmacy and family medicine, as well as a chance to meet graduate school representatives and hear from area medical practitioners.

This year's schedule includes:

• 5-6 p.m. - Medical schools table fair
• 6 p.m. – Keynote address by Dr. Steven Coulter, McDonough District Hospital, Macomb
• 6:20 p.m. – Panel discussion, moderated by Dr. P. Lea Monahan, director of WIU's School of Nursing. Panelists include Madelyn Dulin, a fourth-year student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Rockford; Milton Hutchinson, a first-year student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria; Dr. Laura Peck, MD, chair of surgery at MDH, Macomb; Dr. Jeffrey Sparks, DO, ENT-Otolaryngologist, MDH; and Dr. Olivia White, MD, general surgeon, MDH.

In addition to Dr. Brody and McDonough Eye Associates, this year's Pre-Med Symposium is sponsored by Dr. David Miller and Dr. Mary Kathleen Lockard; the WIU Foundation, the WIU College of Arts and Sciences; the WIU departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Health Sciences and Social Work, and CAS Dean Susan Martinelli-Fernandez.
