MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University-Quad Cities is ready to fly broomsticks across the Mississippi River and solve mathematical puzzles for a summer full of fun and learning for youth in grades 4-8.

"We're so excited for the opportunity to resume our summer youth camps at WIU-QC," said Associate Professor of Mathematics Susan Brooks. "In the past, students have enjoyed these opportunities so much that they return to the camps the very next summer. It's a great opportunity for middle school students to learn new concepts in interesting and hands-on ways while exploring the beauty of WIU-QC's riverfront campus."

WIU has multiple options for kids from around the Quad Cities region and beyond to experience STEM-related activities for a week-long adventure.

Summer will kick off with two math camps, Math on the Mississippi, running simultaneously on campus from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 26-30, followed by the highly popular Muggles in a Wizard's World from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 10-14.

Math on the Mississippi will have two sessions; the first session is for grades 4-6, and the second for grades 6-8. Participants will discover math and science in a dynamic and interactive learning environment through measurement and ratios, simple machines, buoyancy, coding, puzzles, games and logic.

Muggles in a Wizard's World is for students in grades 4-8. Participants will be involved in a regular rotation of activities each day, including writing, reading, games, art, science and blogging, with a reader's theater on the last day.

Enrollment for all sessions is limited to 24 students each and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required and early registration is encouraged.

Camp sponsors are the Regional Development Authority, WIU College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Mathematics, College of Education and Human Services and the School of Education.

Full program information, including how to register, can be found on the WIU summer camp website at wiu.edu/qci or call Melissa Gravert at (309) 757-4787.
