MACOMB, IL – Over the weekend, a group of Western Illinois University faculty and students participated in the Model Illinois Government (MIG) event March 4-5 in Springfield, IL.

WIU Political Science Professor Keith Boeckelman and students Winter Unverzagt, a freshman political science and history double major, from Godfrey, IL, and Nico Lamb, a law enforcement and justice administration major and political science minor, of Lombard, IL, participated in the event.

MIG is a four-day simulation of the Illinois law making process, focusing on the General Assembly. Students play roles as Illinois House members, Senators, and other related positions, such as lobbyists, journalists and lawyers arguing before the Illinois Supreme Court. They get the opportunity to present and debate bills in the legislative chambers in the state capitol.

"I was pleased to watch our delegates learn about the legislative process and participate actively in debates on the floor of the House of Representatives," said Boeckelman.

Unverzagt called the experience "both an educational and advocative opportunity."
