WIU Hosting Case Writer in Residence April 27

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of English will host the annual Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer in Residence Thursday, April 27, at the University Art Gallery.

This year's writer is Angeline Boulley, author of "Firekeeper's Daughter." Boulley will deliver a craft talk at 3 p.m., followed by a reading, question and answer session and book signing at 5 p.m. All events are open free to the public.

Boulley is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She is a storyteller who writes about her Ojibwe community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and is the former director of the Office of Indian Education at the United States Department of Education.

"Firekeeper's Daughter" is Boulley's debut novel and it quickly rose to number one on the New York Times' Best Sellers List. The book has also been awarded the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children's Literature, the Printz Award, the William C. Morris Award for youth adult debut literature and was an American Indian Youth Literature Award Honor Book.

Copies of Boulley's book will be available for purchase at the event, or in advance at New Copperfield's Book Service, on the north side of the Macomb square.

The series is sponsored by the WIU Department of English, the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence program and the WIU College of Arts and Sciences.

The Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence supports bringing national writers of poetry and fiction to WIU each year.
