MACOMB, IL - - Two Western Illinois University Supply Chain Management (SCM) graduate students, Victoria Omololu, of Macomb, and Cirstie Noble, of Le Claire, IA, have earned the industry-recognized CAPM® certification, or Certified Associate in Project Management, from the prestigious Project Management Institute (PMI). They are the first in the program to complete the certification and are working toward completing the post-baccalaureate certificate program in SCM at WIU.

In 2021, the WIU Supply Chain Management Foundation received funding to create the WIU Project Management Certification Reimbursement Program (PMCRP) to provide a convenient and cost-effective way for students in the Project Management course to obtain the CAPM® certification and gain access to additional professional development resources through a PMI Global membership. The course began incorporating the added credential in January 2022.

Upon completing the three semester-hour course, each student is eligible to earn the CAPM® credential.

"The CAPM designation is a valuable tool for our students as a differentiator in the job market. The primary goal of this project is to produce stronger graduates from the WIU SCM program," said SCM Assistant Professor Honey Zimmerman.

With the skills learned in the course and through the training process for the CAPM exam, SCM majors are prepared for success in their professional careers. The course is required for undergraduate SCM majors and is an elective for many other business majors, as well as the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with the SCM concentration and the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Supply Chain Management.
