MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Beginning in the fall semester, Western Illinois University will offer an online bachelor's degree in History. The degree utilizes digital technology to provide access to history education for students unable to complete a face-to-face curriculum.

The Bachelor of Arts in History will be offered completely online through four-, six-, eight- and 16-week courses, which will be delivered online, asynchronously or livestreamed. The courses span modern World history and the world's regions, including modern Europe, Asia, and Latin America, along with courses in Native America, the American West, environmental history, the Civil War era, African American history, and modern American politics and foreign relations. Methodology courses offer training in public history and digital history. All courses will be taught by faculty with Ph.D. degrees in history and experts in online teaching.

Since 2019, WIU's Department of History has offered a full-online minor. The new online major requires completion of 39 semester hours, including 15 hours of core courses, one Writing in the Discipline course and 21 hours of directed electives in the discipline.

The new option for students offers the flexibility to take classes online or in combination with face-to-face classes on the Macomb or Quad Cities campuses.
