Hartnett Named Director of WIU College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University Academic Advisor Niall Hartnett has been named director of the University's College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center, effective July 1.

Hartnett has been an academic advisor for Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology at Western since December 2019. Prior to serving in this position, Hartnett was an academic advisor for Psychology since 2017; and academic advisor for the Office of Academic Services at WIU from August 2011-December 2017; academic advisor for the University Advising and Academic Support Center at WIU from May 2008-August 2011; an instructor for the Freshman Success LAS 110 course at the University of Illinois, Chicago from August-December 2007; an academic advisor in Psychology for the University of Illinois, Chicago, from December 2005-May 2008; an academic advisor for Ivy Tech State College in Indiana from May-November 2005; coordinator of distance education for Ivy Tech State College from January-April 2005; director of Distance Education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, from September 2001-June 2004; interim coordinator of Distance Education at Indiana University from June-September 2001; an Armstrong Award graduate assistant at Indiana University from June 2000-June 2001; a Distance Education graduate assistant at Indiana University from June 2000-June 2001; a National Science Foundation Fellow at Indiana University from October 1999-May 2000; a child care counselor at The David and Margaret Home in California, from January-April 1999; and an educational therapist at The David and Margaret Home from January 1996-October 1998.

Hartnett received his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland; and his master's degree in Educational Psychology from Indiana University.
