MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University School of Nursing will host a mass casualty simulation experience for senior Nursing students from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13 outside of Currens Hall.

"We will be conducting an immersive simulation exercise in which nursing students will have the opportunity to assess and apply their triage skills on 25 actors who will simulate victims in a specific scenario. This exercise aims to provide our nursing students with a valuable opportunity to enhance their ability to identify, prioritize, and apply clinical judgment in high-stress situations, ultimately benefiting the individuals we serve," WIU School of Nursing Instructor Leesa Thompson said.

Thompson and WIU Paramedic Program Director Ben Brewer are teaming up to provide classroom education and hands-on experience with disaster management and triage. Live simulations will include mannequins, live actors serving as victims, a local coroner and an ambulance will be on the scene as well.

"We are looking forward to providing this real life experience to our students and hope it will prepare them for emergencies they may encounter in their careers," Brewer said.
