Commemorative Event Celebrates Milestone Anniversaries of WIU's HRM Program

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University College of Business and Technology and the WIU student chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) hosted a joyous celebration November 2.

During the event, participants attended a workshop presented by Executive Director of Quad Cities Outreach and the Center for Career Preparation and Employer Engagement Audrey Adamson, titled "Internship Best Practices" and earned one professional development credit (PDC) from SHRM. The workshop delved into essential topics, including how to locate student interns, navigate legal guidelines and more. Valuable resources were shared with participants, equipping them with the tools to enhance their internship programs.

Following the workshop, participants and WIU alumni, administrators, faculty, students and community partners attended a reception featuring keynote speakers WIU President Guiyou Huang and Chief Strategy Officer of the QC Chamber of Commerce Brian Irby on "The Importance of HR Professionals and Their Role Cultivating Talent in the Region." Alumnus Teah Shirk also spoke on the dynamic HR Program for both undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing its profound impact. She highlighted how it provides experiential learning for developing strong industry skills and preparation for the challenges of the real world.

The WIU-SHRM chapter furthers the HR Program objectives as a student run organization. It connects students and professionals in the HR field to enrich every student's experience at WIU.
