MACOMB, IL - - Five Western Illinois University students representing the Forestry Club attended the 2023 Tree Career Industry Association (TCIA) Student Career Day November 17.

The event was tailored for students pursuing a career in arboriculture, horticulture or forestry and currently attending a vocational school, college or university. Students had the opportunity to connect with tree care professionals and potential future employers, allowing them to expand their network and explore career paths.

During the event, students had the unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge equipment such as lifts, chippers and climbing gear. They engaged hands-on with the latest arborist equipment, including chainsaws and pole saws, gaining valuable experience with these tools.
In addition to equipment demonstrations, students took part in various skills competitions that tested their proficiency in knot tying, pest identification, tree trivia and gear tests. These interactive and educational activities provided a dynamic learning environment, allowing participants to enhance their knowledge and skills in arboriculture.

Ethan Ulm, one of the attending students, won a new climbing rope in a raffle and the club purchased new climbing gear for the climbing class.
