WIU to Host Inaugural Honors Day March 1

MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University will host the inaugural Honors Day, an event designed for admitted and prospective students to explore the unique offerings of the Centennial Honors College. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, March 1 in the University Union Capitol Room.

"The Honors College has drastically changed my college experience," Honors Student Jordan Rouse said. "I have had the opportunity to take specialized classes, interact with students that have become lifelong friends and work for the betterment of the college as a student representative on the Honors Council. I never would have had the same opportunities if I had not decided to pursue being a member of the Honors College. This is truly a program that will change your life for the better, and I would definitely not be the person I am today without it."

The event aims to introduce high-achieving students to the advantages of joining the Honors College, including scholarships, personal faculty contact and an exclusive community discount program.

As WIU is committed to academic excellence, the Centennial Honors College provides students with a distinctive educational experience. The Honors Day event offers a comprehensive overview of exclusive classes, research opportunities and scholarships. Attendees will have the chance to interact with WIU Honors College Dean Lorette Oden, current faculty and peers.

Requirements for WIU Honors College admission include:

Entering Freshmen

Be admitted to WIU and satisfy A or B below:
A. 3.75 overall high school GPA (based on a 4.0 scale)
B. Meet two of the following criteria:


  • 3.4 high school GPA (4.0 scale)

  • 24 ACT/1160 SAT

  • Top 15% of high school graduating class


  • Transfer and Current WIU Students

  • Be admitted (or currently attending) WIU

  • 3.4 GPA (4.0 scale) with 12 or more semester hours earned
