WIU Centennial Honor College Will Host Pre-Med Symposium March 6

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Centennial Honors College will host keynote speaker Dr. Mary Kathleen Lockard, a pediatrician for the Medical Group of Macomb, at the McDonough Eye Associates Pre-Med Symposium from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 in the University Union Brattain Lounge.

More than 11 medical schools and health programs will be in attendance for a table fair. The panelists will include a current medical student and WIU alumnus, as well as practicing physicians, with Dr. Michael Waters, medical chief of staff for Beau Health Center at WIU, serving as the moderator.

The schedule of events includes:

  • 4-5:45 p.m.: Medical schools table fair

  • 5:45-6 p.m.: Opening remarks and introductions

  • 6-6:20 p.m.: Keynote speaker

  • 6:20 p.m.: Distinguished panel moderated by Waters


  • The panelists will include:

  • Lockard

  • Malika Asar, a third-year medical student at Kansas City University and a WIU alumnus

  • Dr. Amy High, a gynecologist/certified menopause specialist and WIU alumna

  • Dr. Timothy Biagini, a gastroenterologist at Springfield Clinic

  • Dr. Christopher Stortzum, a family medicine physician at Springfield Clinic


  • The event sponsors include Dr. Jill M. Brody with McDonough Eye Associates, WIU College of Arts and Sciences, WIU Department of Biological Sciences, WIU Department of Chemistry, WIU Department of Health Sciences and Social Work and the WIU Foundation.
