MACOMB, IL -- The spring sessions of the Western Illinois University Art Education Community Art Program will be held on Sundays in March and April of the Spring ‘24 semester.

Classes will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. March 24 and April 7, 14, and 21. Classes for third and fourth graders will meet in Garwood Hall, room 24 and classes for students in fifth-eighth grade will meet in Garwood Hall, room 25. There is a 15-student capacity for each class and classes are free.

This spring's classes include:
Third and Fourth Grade: Room 24: Using styles of still life, landscape and self-portrait, young artists will fuse their artistic imaginations with their observations of the real world. Students will develop a sense of textures and depth in both 2D and 3D settings, and learn to recreate it in their art. They will also assemble a variety of color palettes, including cool, warm and monochrome. The first project is a multimedia still life introducing line drawing and acrylic paint. This is followed by an imaginative 2.5D still life of clay flowers popping out of a paper vase. The third project will produce landscapes from a one-point perspective, which will then be combined with the fourth lesson on self-mini figures made of clay.
Fifth-Eighth Grade: Room 25: Students will take on the role of a rockstar. They will begin by working on their collage skills to exemplify themselves as rock stars and what traits depicted by rock musicians will influence their "mini rocker." Students will move to 3D artwork and be able to create mini versions of themselves called "mini rockers" and learn how to make hands-on artwork by molding model magic to make the figure for their puppet. Students will learn about rock stars and use their looks as inspiration for their plaster fabric masks, learning how to utilize block printing to make designs for clothing apparel.
There will be no First and Second Grade classes for Spring ‘24.
