MACOMB, IL – High school senior Isabella Vaz, of Overland Park, KS, has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the AIM High Commitment scholarship. These scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and a standard board for eight semesters.

"WIU was recommended to me by a family friend from the local area who is familiar with the University's strong reputation," Vaz said.

In high school, Vaz was an active soccer team member, scouting, the Overland Park Teen City Council, multiple national honor societies, a volunteer at Care Beyond the Boulevard and a lifeguard.

At Western, Vaz plans to major in Biology with a pre-medicine emphasis. Additionally, she hopes to be involved in athletics, specifically the soccer team and explore pre-med clubs, activities and volunteer opportunities.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's AIM HIGH Western Commitment scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
