You don't have to leave to go far! Through the experiences of our local Western Illinois University students, we want to highlight the many opportunities that await you in this special series. Close to home, WIU can show you the world as you pursue your academic journey and future career.

Meet Keith Hoyle, a sophomore Chemistry major who chose to attend WIU because of proximity and the small classroom environment.

"WIU was in my comfort zone," Hoyle said.

Why WIU?

Hoyle chose Chemistry after noticing the small and close-knit environment of class settings and he was eager to stay close to home.

The WIU Experience

Hoyle's experience at WIU has been based on his program and the faculty. Additionally, he is a residential assistant in the dorms and has had leadership opportunities through attending conferences.

Future Career Aspirations

Western has prepared Hoyle through leadership opportunities that he believes will prepare him for a future in a chemistry setting.

Student Advice

He feels prospective students should ‘just do it' and take advantage of the simplicity of college and gain one-on-one attention with faculty within each department.

"Being a local student has a lot of advantages at Western. You can learn from people of different lifestyles and further develop who you are through the opportunities available," Hoyle said.
