MACOMB, IL – What does the Governor have in mind for Illinois schools? How should school districts work with those students who are homeschooled? What are the latest issues surrounding teacher evaluations and dismissals? As educational administrators and school board members endeavor to lead in the era of “No Child Left Behind” they must keep up-to-date with law and policy. That's where the 16th annual Western Illinois University School Law Conference can help.

From 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 11 top state government officials and school attorneys will shed light on a variety of issues facing schools today. The conference will be held in the University Union on the WIU-Macomb campus.

Featured presenters include Jonathan Furr, general counsel for the Illinois State Board of Education, and Elliott Regenstein, Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s director of educational reform. Furr and Regenstein will present “Meeting the Governor’s Mandate for Educational Change” beginning at 9 a.m. Other presenters throughout the conference include Everett Nicholas of Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton & Taylor, Ltd.; Larry Kuster of Rammelkamp, Bradney, Kuster, Keaton, Fritsche & Lindsay, P.C.; Shayne Aldridge of Hodges, Loizzi, Eisenhammer, Rodick & Kohn; and Brian Schwartz, general counsel for the Illinois Principals Association.

“Again this year, the conference will provide the latest information and analysis of some of the most important issues facing public school leaders in Illinois. And, as in the past, we are fortunate to have the state’s top legal talent to interact with us,” Steve Rittenmeyer, WIU educational leadership department professor and conference coordinator, said.

Sponsors of the 16th Annual School Law Conference include WesternÂ’s department of educational leadership, the College of Education and Human Services at WIU; Regional Superintendent of Schools Bob Baumann; and the Administrators Roundtable of Western Illinois.
