College of Arts and Sciences Spring Awards Reception April 29

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) will hold its spring awards reception from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 29 in the University Union Lamoine Room. Awards presentations will begin at 4:45 p.m.

Outstanding faculty awards will be given to Susan Martinelli-Fernandez, philosophy and religious studies professor, for teaching; Christopher Sutton, geography chair, for teaching with technology; Kristine Kelly, psychology associate professor, for recent achievements in undergraduate research; Polly Radosh, women’s studies professor, for excellence in multicultural teaching; Walter Kretchik, history assistant professor for internationalizing the campus; Mark Boley, physics professor, for research/scholarship and for career achievement in undergraduate research; and Charles Helm, professor and chair of political science, for service.

Students who will receive CAS Student Council honorary recognition awards include English major Susan Sells (Aurora, IL) in the humanities; mathematics education major Jessica Denna (LaGrange, IL) in math and natural sciences; and psychology major Katarina Koscova (Blandinsville, IL) in social sciences.

The Student Council departmental organization recognition award will be presented to the Mathematical Opportunities for Students and Teachers (MOST) Math Organization that provides support and opportunities to math majors and minors.

Retiring faculty who will be recognized include Keh-Chang Chu, physics; Eric Stiffler, philosophy and religious studies; Kenneth Keudell, biology; and Ronald Walker, English and journalism.

The reception is open to the campus community. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
