Drea Named Marketing and Finance Chair

MACOMB, IL – John Drea, marketing professor at Western Illinois University, has been named chair of the department of marketing and finance, effective July 1, by College Business and Technology (CBT) Dean Fred Ebeid.

Drea, who joined the department in 1995, has served as interim department chair since August 2004. Prior to working at Western he was an assistant professor of marketing at Montana State University - Billings. Drea has also served in such positions as assistant dean of instruction, director of business and industry programs and assistant to the president at John Wood Community College in Quincy.

Drea was the recipient of the 2003 American Marketing Association (AMA) Instructional Innovation Award based on several teaching activities that are considered to be significant innovations in marketing education. Drea was also noted by the AMA for his work with using the Internet to create an asynchronous learning environment in "Consumer Behavior." He was the winner of the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1998 and Instructional Innovation Award in 2001, both from the Society for Marketing Advances; and the WIU College of Business and Technology Outstanding Teacher Award in 2000. He also serves on the editorial review boards of two leading marketing education journals. Drea has published numerous articles for professional publications and is the author of three computer-based marketing games for use in the classroom.

"Dr. Drea was selected from an excellent pool of applicants," said Ebeid. "IÂ’m sure that Dr. Drea will continue to lead the department to its next level of academic excellence."

Drea earned a doctoral degree in marketing from Southern Illinois University, his masterÂ’s from the University of Notre Dame and his bachelorÂ’s from Illinois College.
