WOW Award to Karen Harris

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University psychology Professor Karen Harris recently was presented with the Western Organization of Women (WOW) Achievement Award for 2005.

The award is given in recognition of contributions to the University community.

Harris, who has served as a past president of WOW, is president of Western’s local chapter of University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) faculty union. She is a 15-year member of Western’s psychology faculty, having served many years a coordinator of the general experimental master’s degree program.

“Dr. Harris has an excellent reputation as a teacher, researcher and department citizen,” wrote Virginia Diehl, psychology professor and chair, in a letter of nomination. “She serves men and women everyday as UPI president. Her commitment to fairness is known throughout the University.”

She is serving a second term as consulting editor of the Journal of Psychology and reviews manuscripts for three other journals in her areas of expertise, which includes organizational behavior, conflict and negotiation, gender roles and job breadth. In addition to teaching and research in psychology, Harris also teaches a Women’s Studies course titled “Women and Work.”
