WIU Team Brings Home Awards from IA Competition

MACOMB, IL Western Illinois University agriculture students recently lived high on the hog
literally.
Three agriculture took seven hogs that have been raised on Westerns farm to the Iowa State Block and Bridle show in Marshalltown, IA March 3-5 and returned with high honors.
According to Mark Hoge, agriculture assistant professor, all seven swine placed within the top two of their respective classes, which included Champion and Reserve Champion purebred market hogs, Champion Crossbred Barrow and Grand Champion overall market hog.
This was a great first time experience going to this show. There were more than 100 head of hogs shown by producers, 4-Hers and schools from Iowa, South Dakota, Missouri and Illinois, Hoge said. The University was well-represented and the students had a great overall experience.
Participating students included Dustin Bauer, a senior from Macomb (IL); Mike Roach, a senior from Sycamore (IL); and Megan Quaka, a junior from Mazon (IL).
