Sociology Lecture on Sex, Gender and Disability

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University’s sociology department and Alpha Kappa Delta will host Tom Gerschick’s presentation of “Sex, Gender and Disability: Mapping the Landscape” at noon Friday, April 21 in the University Union Cardinal Oak Room.

Gerschick is an associate professor of sociology at Illinois State University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1994. He serves as the faculty advisor to the ISU student chapter of Habitat for Humanity and is co-director of the university’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta. His research focuses on the intersection of gender, the body and non-normativity.

In his presentation, Gerschick will explore knowledge of the intersection of sex, gender and disability. He will also address what sociologists still need to know including the role of parents, media and institutions in gendering children with disabilities.

This presentation is open free to the public.
