WIU's Dupuis to Central Florida

MACOMB, IL - Martin Dupuis, acting director of Western Illinois University’s Illinois Centennial Honors College, has accepted a position as the assistant dean at the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, effective Aug. 1. Dupuis’ final day at Western is June 30.

William Knox, an English professor at Northern Michigan University, has been named director of the Centennial Honors College, effective July 1.

Dupuis joined Western’s political science faculty in 1997 and has worked with the Centennial Honors College the last three years, serving as acting director and associate director. He also has served as the Pre-Law Honors adviser.

“I am very grateful for the friends and opportunities I’ve had here,” Dupuis said. “I began my academic career at WIU, and I’ve had great mentors in teaching and in administration.

“I am excited about returning to Florida, and the Burnett Honors College is one of the best honors programs in the nation,” added Dupuis, who used to live in Clearwater, FL and is a member of the Florida Bar.

As a political scientist, Dupuis has focused his research and volunteer efforts on gay and lesbian rights, civil rights and social justice. He earned his juris doctorate (1987) from The American University in Washington, D.C. and his doctorate in political science (1997) from the University of Southern California. Dupuis’ dissertation, “Same-Sex Marriage, Legal Mobilization and the Politics of Rights,” was published as a book in 2002 by Peter Lang Publishing. He earned his undergraduate degree from Albion (MI) College.
