Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance October 17

MACOMB, IL - - The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance will present “An American Icon: The Zion Mojave Wilderness” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in Western Illinois University’s Morgan Hall 101B.

Co-chair of the Illinois Task Force for Utah Wilderness, Clayton Daughenbaugh will discuss how citizens can help protect the Zion-Mojave wilderness from public and urban development. He is a field organizer for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and a member of the Sierra ClubÂ’s National Wildlands Committee.

The wilderness complex is comprised of land west of Zion National Park and the Mojave Dessert that contains cherished nature such as stone temples, ponderosa-studded plateaus, Joshua trees and the endangered desert tortoise.

Sponsors of the presentation include WesternÂ’s Horn Environmental Learning Project, the Institute for Environmental Studies, and the departments of anthropology and sociology, English and journalism, geology and history.
