MACOMB, IL – As a part of the Western Illinois University’s Family Weekend activities, Western’s department of recreation, park and tourism administration’s (RPTA) Horn Field Campus will host an open house from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 4.

Campus, community residents and their families are invited to enjoy refreshments and discover the 92-acre wooded setting. Guided trail hikes will be held at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Visitors can enjoy a warm drink by the fireplace in the lodge and learn about the heritage of this facility from the Bacon era of the 1800s to the Horn legacy that is being carried out today, said Horn Field Campus Program Coordinator Mindy Harpman.

“Guests are welcome to tour the challenge course area to see firsthand why Horn Field Campus has become known as west central Illinois’ unique outdoor adventure recreation and leadership training facility,” Harpman added.

Located one mile south of Macomb, Horn Field Campus is a unit of WesternÂ’s College of Education and Human Services and is administered by the RPTA department.

“Horn is a perfect place to hold group functions, class meetings, professional and academic conferences, retreats and other activities,” Harpman explained. “This peaceful and rustic setting is open year round and is perfectly suited for getting back to nature, studying, reflecting or relaxing.”
