MACOMB, IL – The third annual Western Illinois University English Graduate Organization (EGO) Fall Conference will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 with keynote speaker Michael Loudon in Simpkins Hall 027.

Loudon, who has taught at the University of Guam, will connect this year’s theme, “Representations of Indigenous Identity,” by using John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath,” Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man” and Leslie Marmon Silko’s “Ceremony.” The current Eastern Illinois University professor of English will show through these books how culture shapes identities.

After coffee and conversation at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 in Simpkins 341, five separate panel discussions will be held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in Simpkins 027.

According to David King, EGO president, the conferenceÂ’s goal is for people to remember the primary goals of a liberal arts education: engaging a diversity of languages, cultures and peoples.

The EGO Fall Conference is sponsored by the Visiting LecturerÂ’s Committee and WIUÂ’s department of English and journalism. For more information e-mail Ego@wiu.edu or visit www.wiu.edu/ego/conference.
