People-to-People Expo

MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University–Quad Cities recreation, park and tourism administration (RPTA) students and Quad Cities-area organizations will host the third annual People-To-People volunteer expo from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Bettendorf (IA) Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive at 18th Street.

According Marcia Carter, an RPTA associate professor, the expo is designed to allow organizations seeking volunteers to find support, as well as to provide an opportunity for interested volunteers to learn about ways to be involved in community activities and projects.

The volunteer expo, “Connecting People with Quad City Organizations,” is coordinated by students in Carter’s RPTA 424 (Fundraising and Volunteering in Leisure Services) class and will feature nearly 20 Quad Cities-area volunteer agencies including the Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, ARC of Rock Island County, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Figge Art Museum.

The event is open free to the public and will include complimentary refreshments and entertainment. In addition, sponsors and other organizations have provided door prizes for the expo.

Sponsors for the event include the WIU Graduate Studies and WIU-QC Executive Studies Center, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Scott County, Bettendorf Parks and Recreation, Family Museum, Figge Art Museum, Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, ARC of Rock Island County, Iowa/Illinois Center for Independent Living, Scott County Special Olympics, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project, QC DollarWise, Rock Island Arsenal Museum, Eastern Iowa Community College District, University of Illinois Extension and Bettendorf Community Schools.
