MACOMB, IL -- A Western Illinois University professor has been recognized for her work, along with two colleagues, by the American Counseling Association (ACA).

Dea Forney of the college student personnel (CSP) program in Western's educational and interdisciplinary studies department, and former Western CSP professor Nancy Evans, a professor in the department of educational leadership and policy studies and coordinator of the masters program in student affairs at Iowa State University, and Daniel Salter, faculty chair for Student Success, Doctoral Programs in Education, Walden University, recently received the 2007 Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development (MECD) Research Award from the Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education, a division of the ACA. The trio authored "Two Approaches to Examining the Stability of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Scores."

Forney collaborated with Evans and Salter for the award-winning article, which resulted from a database Forney compiled as part of a longitudinal study of Western CSP students that she has been conducting for almost 20 years.

According to the Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education, the MECD Award is "designed to honor and recognize high quality, original research in areas of interest to the counseling profession."

Forney joined Western's CSP program as an assistant professor in 1987 and was promoted to professor in 1996. She is a member of the American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Media Board, and she has served on the editorial board of the Journal of College Student Development. Forney is a co-author of the book "Student Development in College: Theory, Research, and Practice" and served as senior editor of a book about using the entertainment media to facilitate student learning. She is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and has served as a consultant to several colleges and universities, and she has been named a Diamond Honoree by ACPA for outstanding contributions to the field of student affairs. She had also been named a Senior Scholar by ACPA and a Fellow by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

"This is an outstanding -- and well-deserved -- honor for Dr. Forney," said College of Education and Human Services Dean Bonnie Smith-Skripps. "This award is further evidence of Dea's exemplary and meaningful contributions to the field and the quality education she provides our students."
