ICTM Regional Conference March 30 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - - The Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICMT) will host its 56th annual Western Regional Conference Friday, March 30 at the Western Illinois University Union in Macomb.

Featured speakers for the program are Randy and Sue Pippen, ICTM past presidents and current instructors at North Central College (Naperville, IL). The Pippens have served as consultants to the Illinois State Board of Education in mathematics in the areas of assessment, goals and standards writing and Illinois Assessment Frameworks writing. They have also served on numerous committees such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, as well as serving on the ICTM scholarship committee.

The ICTM Western Regional Conference is open to anyone teaching mathematics or seeking a better understanding of how to engage and teach mathematics for levels K-16. The program will feature 20-minute, 50-minute and 75-minute sessions. Workshops and sessions include "SMART Boards in the Math Classroom," "Discover Geometry Using Cabri Jr. on Your TI-84 Calculator," "Dice Games," "The Mathematics of Cribbage" and "Mathematics and the Power Grid." Illinois public school teachers can get five Continuing Professional Development Units.

The Illinois Section of the Mathematical Association of America's (ISMAA) annual meeting will follow the ICTM conference at 2 p.m. Registered ICTM participants may attend the ISMAA Conference free of charge.

A reception for all registered ICTM conference participants and their spouses will be held Thursday (March 29) event at the residence of WIU President Al Goldfarb, hosted by Western's math department.

Registration is $50 for a fulltime educator, $45 for West Central Council Teachers of Mathematics (WCCTM) members and $25 for a fulltime student and includes a full-service luncheon.
