MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's ROTC Rifle team placed two teams in competition at the Illinois State Collegiate Championship Match March 3 in Streator (IL).

The first team of four shooters, comprised of students in each academic year, earned second place. A second team of sophomores placed third overall. Illinois State University won the match.

Second place team members, all law enforcement and justice administration (LEJA) majors with military science minors, included team captain Jake Beard, a senior from Alexander (IL); Michael Hart, a junior from Naperville (IL); Kyle Ullmark, a sophomore from Sycamore (IL), and Samantha Homerding, a freshman from Forrest (IL).

The third place team of sophomores included Hazel Hall, a fashion merchandising major with minors in Spanish and military science, from Hanover Park (IL); Eric Deiderich, an LEJA major with minors in security administration and military science, from Arlington Heights (IL); Joe Lellman, a kinesiology major from Buffalo Grove (IL); and Nathon Fox, a history major and military science minor, from Keokuk, IA.

Competition was a three-position small bore event, with individuals shooting at two targets in prone, standing and kneeling positions; and National Rifle Association rules applied, according to Sgt. 1st Class Todd Icenogle, team coach and military science II instructor.

Each target was worth 100 points, for a potential total of 200 points at each position.

Beard led the scoring with 535 out of a possible 600 points.
