WIU-QC Faculty Member Named QC Leader

MOLINE, IL -- A Western Illinois University-Quad Cities counselor education assistant professor has been named a Black Hawk College (BHC) Foundation 2007 Quad-Cities Area Leader Under 40.

Holly Nikels is among 18 Quad Citians selected for the fifth annual BHC Foundation award. The 2007 honorees will be recognized at an April 26 event at The MARK of the Quad Cities.

Nikels joined Western's counselor education faculty in August 2003. Her professional counseling experiences include work in employee assistance programs, in-patient mental health hospital facility and elementary and high school counseling. At WIU, Nikels teaches counseling children and adolescents; intro to counseling skills and practice; counseling theories and development; group counseling; counseling practicum; marriage and family relations counseling; and developmental school counseling.

She received her bachelor's degree in Human Development/Early Childhood Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Her master's and specialist's degrees in Community Counseling were also awarded from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Nikels earned her doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of South Dakota.
