Tower Hours Begin This Weekend

MACOMB, IL -- Saturday's forecast calls for sunny skies and 70+ degree temps … a perfect day to climb!

Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus open tower hours for the climbing and rapelling tower begin Saturday, April 21. The tower will be open for unlimited climbing from 2-6 p.m. Saturday. Other tower hours for the remainder of the Spring 2007 Semester include 2-6 p.m. Saturdays, April 28 and May 5. Youth 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult

The climbing tower is a 40-foot vertical wood structure, with three sides for climbing, complete with rock-like handholds, and one side for rappelling. One tower wall is slightly inclined for those new to the climbing experience. Harnesses, helmets and safety ropes are provided. Two or more facilitators assist with the tower.

The $5 fee includes all equipment and instruction. A shuttle will run from the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center to Horn Field Campus at 2 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Participants may also drive to Horn Field Campus, which is located south of Macomb on China Road.
