MACOMB, IL - Three Western Illinois staff members crossed the finish line at the 8th Annual Country Music Marathon held in Nashville, TN, April 28, and raised more than $1,600 for women's heart disease along the way.

Western Illinois diving coach Kaitlin Schneider, academic mentor Erin Jordan and sports management professor Angela Xie all completed the 26.2-mile course that wound from Centennial Park, past Vanderbilt University, and travelled through downtown Nashville before finishing at LP Field, home to the NFL's Tennessee Titans.

"We're so happy that all three of us accomplished our goal of finishing the race," Jordan said. "We had a lot of fun training together and really enjoyed our time in Nashville."

The trio had trained for the race since mid-December with the goal of raising awareness of women's heart disease, a condition that affects Schneider's mother.

"Women's heart disease is an overlooked problem that afflicts thousands of women around the world," Jordan said. "The good news is it's preventable with exercise and a healthy diet."

Through the group's Web site, www.firstgiving.com/lovewomanheart the team has raised $1,660 dollars to support the Association for Women's Heart Programs, and will continue accepting donations through mid-May.

"Hopefully, we will still reach our goal of $2,000 by the time school ends," Xie said.
