MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University will host the Inaugural College Student Personnel (CSP) Summer Institute for Western's CSP alumni Thursday-Friday, June 21-22 on the WIU-Macomb campus.

The institute is designed to serve the interests of Western Illinois' CSP alumni working in higher education and student development, according to Vice President for Student Services Garry Johnson. This inaugural institute will focus on identity development, millennial student characteristics, managing entry-level staff and expectations and trends within student services, he added.

Western alumnus and Texas Tech Vice President for Student Services Michael Shonrock will be the keynote speaker.

Shonrock earned his bachelor's (geography, 1979) and master's (CSP, 1981) degrees at Western. Shonrock was promoted to vice president in January 2001. He has also taught classes in educational psychology and leadership and higher education programs since 1991.

Shonrock, a former member of Western Illinois' Alumni Council, has served as a faculty member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Mid-Managers Institute and New Professionals Institute as well as the Delta Tau Delta Leadership Academy. He attended, by invitation, the NASPA Senior Student Affairs Institute in Spain and the Institute for Education Management Harvard Graduate School of Education in Summer 2005.

The institute will begin with an 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. June 21 golf outing and lunch at Western's Harry Mussato Golf Course followed by a 6-8 p.m. welcome reception hosted by Vice President for Student Services Garry Johnson.
