NOTICE OF DEATH OF ROBERT OSMON

BLOOMINGTON, IN -- Former Western Illinois University Educational and Interdisciplinary Studies (EIS) Professor Robert V. Osmon, 79, of Bloomington, died July 19 in Bloomington.

Osmon joined the WIU faculty in 1966, retiring in 1996. He served as graduate committee chair and assisted in the development of the Master of Science degree in educational and interdisciplinary studies at WIU. He directed the master's program for 13 years. In March 1997, the EIS department established The Robert Osmon Award, which is given to a graduate student who demonstrates outstanding achievement at Western or a public school district.

Prior to joining Western, Osmon taught at North Texas University in Denton and the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where he directed the graduate degree program in education.

Osmon authored or edited five books in the field of education along with 20 monographs or articles in the field of human growth and development and gerontology. He was past president of the Illinois Gerontology Consortium. He received his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from Indiana University.
