MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's teacher education students will have the opportunity to learn new education-related programs thanks to a donation from a software company.

Inspiration Software recently provided a donation of its software, valued at more than $18,000, to Western's program. The software will be installed in Horrabin Hall computer labs, in electronic classrooms and will be provided to teacher education faculty.

According to Rodney Greer, assistant to the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) dean, Inspiration, Kidspiration and Inspiration for Pocket PCs software will allow students to create graphic organizers with pictures and text to improve reading skills, better organize ideas for writing and understand relationships between concepts. The InspireData software will help students visualize data and develop analytical skills in content areas such as mathematics, science and social studies through the collection and plotting of data in charts and diagrams.

"This grant program allows teacher education faculty and students access to a set of powerful software tools," Greer added. "Partnerships such as this are important in our ongoing effort to use current and emerging technologies in the preparation of teachers."
