MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Infant and Preschool Center will be conducting a feasibility study regarding the possibility of providing summer childcare during the eight-week Summer 2008 session, which runs June 2-July 25.

While a formal survey will be sent to WIU faculty, staff and students to determine the need for summer care, Center Director Ann Curtis also encourages those who are interested in childcare opportunities during the eight-week summer session to contact the center (309/298-298-1250) to obtain an application.

"This is a service we'd love to provide; however, we have to ensure there is a need for this over the summer months," Curtis added. "It's also important to note that those who would enroll for childcare services during the summer months will not have access to the center during the Fall 2008 semester unless we have an opening. We always welcome interested parents and guardians to inquire regarding openings and place their names on a waiting list."

The center previously offered childcare during the Summer 2007 eight-week session. The summer curriculum will be geared toward outdoor and nature exploration, and will include walking field trips around campus. Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the center employs five master teachers who model best practices for Early Childhood majors and supervise the many students hired as teacher-assistants for the center.
