MACOMB, IL -- Student speech: What is covered by the First Amendment and what's not? What can school districts do to prevent employee abuse and misuse of social network sites? As educational administrators and school board members strive to lead successful schools, they must keep up-to-date with law and policy. That's where the 19th annual Western Illinois University School Law Conference, "Contemporary Legal Issues in Illinois," can help.

From 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, March 7 school attorneys and WIU educational leadership faculty will shed light on a variety of issues facing schools today. The conference will be held in the University Union on the WIU-Macomb campus.

Sessions include "Student Speech: What is Covered by the 1st Amendment" by Larry Kuster of
Rammelkamp, Bradney, Kuster, Keaton, Fritsche and Lindsay, P.C.; "Employee Use, Abuse and Misuse of Social Network Sites" by Shayne L. Aldridge of Hodges, Loizzi, Eisenhammer, Rodick and Kohn; "You've Got to Know When to Hold Them and Know When to Fold Them" by Everett Nicholas of Robbins, Schwartz, Nicholas, Lifton and Taylor, Ltd.; "Superintendent and Administrator Contracts" by Sara Bouchek, associate director of the Illinois Association of School Administrators; "Student Privacy Rights" by Hector Lareau, attorney at law; and "Educational Malpractice" by Lloyd Kilmer of the WIU educational leadership department.

"As in year's past, the conference will provide the latest information and analysis of some of the most important issues facing public school leaders in Illinois. We are fortunate to have the state's top legal talent to interact with us once again," Bob Hall, WIU educational leadership chair, said.
