MACOMB, IL -- Five members of Western Illinois University's student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (SCIMA) presented their solution to the IMA's national student video case competition at the Illowa Chapter meeting held recently in Moline, IL.

According to Amy Ford, accountancy instructor and WIU SCIMA co-adviser, this year's case focused on the budgeting process of a not-for-profit healthcare company. The students' solution used a creative board meeting setting to solve the questions from the case published in the August 2007 issue of "Strategic Finance." The students submitted their 15-minute video solution in January and will receive the results of the national competition by the end of the Spring 2008 semester, Ford noted.

"WIU has a strong history in the competition, winning two national finals with final four appearances seven times," Ford added. "We're eager to hear how the 2008 team fared."

Team members include Erin Austin, senior accountancy major from Warsaw (IL); James Kveton, senior accountancy and finance major from Sandwich (IL); Bernard Potkanowicz, senior marketing major from Geneva (IL); Greg Piotrowski, junior accountancy major from Chicago; and Sean Sutton, senior finance major from Shoreview, MN. Accountancy professor George Peek also serves as SCIMA co-adviser.
