MACOMB, IL -- Lance Ternasky, professor of educational and interdisciplinary studies (EIS) and interim associate dean for the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS), has been named associate dean, effective May 1, according to COEHS Dean Bonnie Smith-Skripps.

Ternasky was appointed interim associate dean in August 2007. He has taught in the EIS department since 1995 and served as chair of the department from 2002-05. He also served as interim associate dean in 2005-2006. His teaching areas include philosophy of education and historical and social foundations.

Ternasky received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of the Redlands (CA) and earned a Ph.D. from Cornell University. Prior to joining Western's EIS faculty, he was a faculty member and served as associate dean of admissions and health science program director at the University of the Redlands. While at Western, Ternasky has conducted districtwide evaluations for Illinois school districts and served on research and design teams for the Illinois State Board of Education and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.

Ternasky will be responsible for academic programs within the college, provide oversight on grants and contracts, serve as director of the Office of Research Design and Analysis, and promote partnerships with schools and agencies.

"Dr. Ternasky's teaching and administrative experience combined with his philosophy of education and administration will continue to serve the college well and enhance our outstanding academic programs," said Smith-Skripps.
