Farewell Reception for Polly Radosh May 23

MACOMB, IL - - A farewell reception for Western Illinois University Women's Studies Chair and Professor Polly Radosh will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 23 at the Alumni House, 1009 W. Adams St.

Radosh joined the Western sociology faculty as an assistant professor in 1984. She was named director of Western's women's studies program in 1995 and named chair of the newly-established department of women's studies in 2005. She also served as a lecturer in Fall 1990 for the WIU Semester Abroad in London (SAIL) Program at the University of London, American Institute for Foreign Study.

Radosh has been awarded many honors at Western, including being named the 2007 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. Among her other honors include induction into Phi Kappa Phi (2005); the Provost's Award for Excellence in Multicultural Teaching (2005); the College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Multicultural Teaching Award (2005); the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Service Award (2002); Western Organization for Women Achievement Award (2001); National University Continuing Education Award for Creative Program (1995); College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award (1990); and Faculty Excellence awards (1988, 1992, 1994, 1995).

"Polly's commitment to multiculturalism spans her Western career and is reflected in her service work, teaching, significant impact on curriculum and her own scholarship," said Baker-Sperry. "The reception is an opportunity to convey a heartfelt thank you for her dedication and service to Western Illinois University, and to wish her well as dean at SUNY Geneseo."

SUNY-Geneseo is Radosh's undergraduate alma mater. She earned her master's degree and Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
